In 1958 the first mainstream national Indigenous body was formed in Adelaide. The members rejected the Government’s idea of ‘assimilation’. This group was later called FCAATSI (Federal Council for the advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders)

What rights were they calling for that white people already had? Why was it difficult for the members to travel interstate?
