How the 'atmospheric brown cloud' was discovered

With a population of over one billion, serious air pollution and health problems arise from cooking smoke produced in traditional ways in India. A new 'simple stove' is reducing emissions and giving villagers carbon credits for making the switch to a cleaner way of burning fuel.

The climate scientists are measuring the thickness of the ice on top of the Himalayan glacier lakes. In this clip we also see some shocking footage of a flood caused by a glacier lake outburst that killed dozens of villagers with no warning whatsoever. The concern is that climate change may cause more of these devastating floods.

Bernice travels high up the mountain with a climate scientist to see how he is using high tech instruments to measure the composition of materials on the ground and how much the ice is melting.
