In early 2007, Paul Kelly asked a number of his friends to donate their time to record versions of songs by Kev Carmody, for what was to become the album Cannot Buy My Soul. In January 2008, most of them, including Kev Carmody himself, came together at the State Theatre in Sydney for the stage production of Cannot But My Soul. Once again, the artists involved donated their time to the project, which went on to become one of the most powerful and emotional concerts Sydney has ever heard.
Big Name No Blanket tells the extraordinary story of George Rrurrambu, the former lead singer of the pioneering Warumpi Band of the 1980s. George is the charismatic frontman, who combined rock and roll, reggae, pop and traditional culture to spread the message about Indigenous contemporary issues, awakening the Australian consciousness of a third world in its own backyard.
