Based on Margaret Atwood's novel, this dramatic series tells the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society that faces environmental disasters and a plummeting birth rate. In a desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world, the few remaining fertile women are forced into sexual servitude. In the first episode, Offred, one the few fertile women left in Gilead, struggles to survive as a reproductive surrogate for a powerful commander and his resentful wife.
