It started in the spring of 1991 when the assault on Rodney King by four white police officers was caught on tape. It was escalated by the light sentence given to a shop owner for the shooting death of an innocent teenage girl. But it was with the police officers' acquittal that six days of rioting took hold of Los Angeles.
