Journeys Into Genocide

Land
Season 1  |  Episode 2  |  The History Channel  |  October 6, 2011

The second programme traces the story of ethnic cleansing by empire-builders. Ethnic cleansing by the colonisers from the middle ages through to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries shows a transition from a practice committed in the name of religion, to a racial one. In essence though, the persecuted were just in the way of expansion. Colonisers who believed they were 'civilising' native peoples ended up decimating populations, some of which have never recovered.
