Jimmy Doherty uncovers the tricks and techniques that food producers use to ensure we can enjoy favourite foods whenever we want. The British climate is not conducive to banana growing, so the fruit is picked while it is still green and flown there from thousands of miles away. Jimmy tries to copy the trick that banana suppliers use to artificially ripen them so they are ready for the supermarket. This leads him on to mushrooms, which normally only appear in the fields in autumn, but grace the supermarket shelves all year round.
