After graduating, young Albert Einstein struggles to land an academic post in a scientific world of tradition and protocol. Finally finding a job, he is able to support the pregnant Mileva, but then tragedy strikes.
After moving his family to Berlin to be closer to his work, Einstein sets out to prove his theory of general relativity, but the expedition goes awry. His affair with Elsa now becoming known, he is faced with an ultimatum.
During the time that will come to be known as his 'miracle year', Albert Einstein continues to struggle with balancing his work at the patent office and working on his papers, among them his theory of special relativity.
With new teaching duties, Einstein begins to experience the academic life he long coveted. However, this new happiness comes at the price of his family who are tested even further when he is reintroduced to his cousin Elsa.
