A Condition 1 storm has wind speed over 60 miles per hour and the temperature is less than negative 100 degrees. When this storm hits, research teams in Antarctica they have no option but to isolate themselves from the outside world even further. Unfortunately this also leaves some scientists with nothing more than a tent to protect them at the base of an ice shelf while those stranded on the water aren't faring any better.
