Farmer Needs a Robot
ABC February 6, 2018

There's a tech revolution unfolding in Australia - but it's not happening where you might expect. A team of scientists led by internationally renowned roboticist, Salah Sukkarieh, are opening up a new world of farming science; one that could give Australian farmers more control over their future than ever before. Catalyst joins engineers from the Australian Centre for Field Robotics as they explore the world of agriculture to develop robots and create smarter ways of farming. But are these prototype robots up to the many tasks of a farmer? Will they change the way we've been farming for generations? Can the robots lead the farmers (and their cattle) to greener pastures? Australian farmers are up against it. But help is at hand.

For decades geologists have warned of Nepal's vulnerability to a deadly earthquake, a fearsome echo of the 1934 event which claimed 17,000 lives. At 11:56am on Saturday 25th April, a shifting of rock 15km beneath the earth's surface unleashed a quake with the force of a 7 megaton bomb. The resultant 7.8 magnitude tremor tore through Nepal and the surrounding region, a natural disaster which preyed on the region's vulnerability and an underprepared population now facing destruction on an epic scale.
