In 2008, Nepal's monarchy was ousted from power, turned out of their palaces, and so the country began a new era as a republic. Nepal's new constitutional assembly finally ended the monarchy, and formed a peace deal with Maoist guerrillas who gave up the bullet for the ballot box on the condition that the country became a secular republic.
