Following on from the success of the award-winning ABC television series Choir Of Hard Knocks, choirmaster Jonathon Welch is on a mission. He believes music can change lives and he's out to prove it. This four-part series is a journey of participation and transformation in an unfamiliar world and humanises those on the inside. In an unprecedented move, Corrections Victoria has allowed Jonathon to begin a choir inside Tarrengower Prison, a low security women's prison in regional Victoria. It's the first time a documentary series has been filmed in a Victorian prison. The prison and Jonathon share an objective: to restore the prisoners' self-esteem and improve their rehabilitative prospects. But can Jonathon's song and dance routines have any lasting effect on these women?
It has been six months since the Tarrengower women's prison choir project began and from an unpromising start, Jonathon and the women have worked hard to create a unique Tarrengower sound. Now, in one final concert, they must prove the pilot program has been a success and that music can in fact change peoples' lives.
Choirmaster Jonathon Welch continues his unique brand of music making with a group of women prisoners in Tarrengower Prison in regional Victoria. Each week he takes the women through musical exercises, drills, singing and even some dance moves with his ever-changing group. Consistency is hard because the prisoners come and go.
