Despite the lowest home loan rates in decades, the number of Australians falling behind on loan repayments is now at its highest since the end of the Global Financial Crisis - with research out of the University of Melbourne suggesting stagnating wages is causing further mortgage stress. Independent MP Andrew Wilkie says an inquiry won’t go far enough and is calling for an investigation into allegations of corruption involving casino Crown Melbourne. Pearling conjures images of South Pacific islands or tropical locations such as Broome, but Australia’s next pearling industry is just a few hours’ drive from Sydney.
