This five-part documentary series reflects how Native peoples valiantly resisted expulsion from their lands and fought the extinction of their culture - including the Wampanoags of New England in the 1600s, who used their alliance with the English to weaken rival tribes, and the bold new leaders of the 1970s, who harnessed the momentum of the civil rights movement to forge a pan-Indian identity.

Deep down we're all fractured, an oil and gas representative tells young Aboriginal leader and lawyer Caleb Behn. Behn knows that feeling all too well, as he struggles with the role he'll play in protecting his territory in northern British Columbia, currently under siege from some of the world's largest natural gas operations. The troubling reality is that the same industry threatening traditional practices and livelihoods is also responsible for giving his parents jobs that provided him with his lifestyle and education. Whether hunting beaver, throwing hatchets or studying legal briefs, the burden of leadership is visible in Behn, as he knows others are looking to him for a better future. Following him from the pristine North to downtown Vancouver and a fracked territory in New Zealand, Fractured Land provides optimism and empowerment toward issues that can seem dire and insurmountable. Filmmakers Fiona Rayher and Damien Gillis have been following Caleb for four years, capturing hundreds of hours of footage of his development, through law school, sharing knowledge with other Indigenous peoples, speaking to larger and larger audiences, dealing with deep community divisions, and building a movement. This is the true story of the biggest and bloodiest suicide campaign in history. In 1945, Operation Ten-Go (Operation Heaven) lasted four months, involving more than 3000 planes, hundreds of rocket bombs, suicide ships, human torpedoes and the world's biggest battleship The Yamato. More than 7000 Japanese died, 400 Allied ships were hit and 5000 Allied sailors were killed in the largest suicide attack in history. Stylised re-enactments of the Kamikaze in action give an intense and visceral feel of what it was like for the pilots and sailors involved in the attacks. Photo real CGI re-enacts the horror of a Kamikaze attack. Newly discovered Japanese letters and diaries challenge the stereotype of the Japanese pilots as blood crazed, fanatical patriots who were happy to die. The programme includes never before seen Japanese archive film of Kamikaze training and preparations for attack and original colour film of The Day of the Kamikaze.

An unknown chapter of Anne Frank's life has recently been uncovered. A volunteer was sorting through Holocaust manuscripts in the YIVO archives at the Institute for Jewish Research when she came upon letters written by Anne Frank's father. Otto Frank wrote dozens of letters to various contacts in the US Government desperately trying to save his family from the clutches of the Nazis, letters that were lost until now. Otto's letters and the US State Department's responses paint a picture of the world's failure to respond to the plight of Jewish refugees. In this film, Anne Franks' surviving family, Buddy Elias and Eva Schloss, relate the unknown story of the Frank family's frantic search for sanctuary. And in so doing, the film retells the Anne Frank story, a poignant reminder of the plight of a world-famous refugee who has no where to go.
