For decades geologists have warned of Nepal's vulnerability to a deadly earthquake, a fearsome echo of the 1934 event which claimed 17,000 lives. At 11:56am on Saturday 25th April, a shifting of rock 15km beneath the earth's surface unleashed a quake with the force of a 7 megaton bomb. The resultant 7.8 magnitude tremor tore through Nepal and the surrounding region, a natural disaster which preyed on the region's vulnerability and an underprepared population now facing destruction on an epic scale.
