Anh travels north to the capital of Hanoi, where he samples produce from the Old Quarter's 36 specialist streets then enjoys the old-world French influence at the historic Metropole Hotel. Next he visits the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh. Known as Uncle Ho to millions of Vietnamese, he is regarded as the father of modern, independent Vietnam. The spectacular scenery of the Red River Delta around Nin Binh is the setting for a hands-versus-feet rowing race on the river. Anh goes hunting for snails, a local delicacy, then cooks them up in the traditional way. Anh ends his journey in a north-western mountain town of Sapa, where he helps out at a local school and finishes the evening at a raucous party with Hmong tribal ladies.

Engineers are constructing and fitting out a new station at Paddington, erecting a 230m-long great glass canopy to soar above the structure, and plugging directly into Brunel's original grade one-listed station - a nerve wracking feat. At Tottenham Court Road, workers are building underground platforms and concourses the size of an aircraft carrier in the heart of the world's busiest shopping district. The team must carefully remove enormous props that hold apart the station walls, as convoys of concrete trucks drive down Oxford Street where half a million shoppers and tourists visit, every day. In Derby, a father and son team race to construct 66 trains to ferry passengers across the 50km of Crossrail line.

From the first sighting by a wayward buccaneer in 1688, all the way through to the Sydney Olympics, Australia has been influenced by many cultures. Now Tony Robinson brings his distinctive passion for storytelling and discovery to reveal some astonishing quirks of history on the island continent. The characters who left their fingerprints on Australia's formative years were predominantly English and Irish. Nonetheless. Tony will also reveal some surprising and controversial stories of the settlers and un-settlers from other countries (Austria, France, Israel, Germany and more): the rebels, ratbags and revolutionaries who in some small way contributed to the birth of a nation. Alternative title: Tony Robinson Explores Australia.

Tony Robinson does an entrance examination to see if he'd qualify as an acceptable migrant to Australia. From its earliest days, Australia needed free migrants to grow and prosper, and it needed women. Schemes were devised to achieve both objectives, with bounties offered for bringing boatloads of human cargo from the UK and Ireland. But the people merchants got greedy, and the human toll was terrible. Tony traces immigration and multiculturalism from the early 1800s, through the White Australia Policy, to the first arrival of Vietnamese boat people in the 1970s. He decides that the best way of exploring a country's diversity is to talk to taxi drivers. Alternative title: Tony Robinson Explores Australia.

Antarctica is the last great wilderness: the coldest, windiest, driest and most isolated place on Earth. Every winter, for over three months of the year, the sun never rises. But it's also home to the British Antarctic Survey's Halley Research Station. A veteran of living and working at Halley in the early eighties, BBC weatherman Peter Gibbs makes an emotional return to the place he once called home. A place that, during his time, was key to the discovery of the ozone hole. The journey starts with an arduous 12-day, 3000-mile voyage onboard the RRS Ernest Shackleton.

Japan's 7000 islands cover an incredible range of extreme climates from frozen seas and snow-capped mountains, to sun kissed beaches and steamy mangroves. Winter can be brutal, and Japanese snow monkeys endure the cold by basking in volcanic pools. Spring is a busy time for Japanese fishermen and the sea birds that catch fish for them. In contrast, summer in the southern islands is sweltering, with crabs patrolling the steamy mangroves.
