Traces the long and ferocious rivalry between Coke and Pepsi, centred on the 'New Coke' debacle of 1985. For almost a hundred years, Coke had been the undisputed leader in the multibillion-dollar global soda industry - stodgy, predictable, but indisputably top dog - while Pepsi had been the upstart No.2, forever poking at its big brother with cutting edge advertising. But in 1985, in a stranger-than-fiction twist, Coca-Cola's executives took a step so daring that no-one in either company could believe it: they changed the formula of the most popular beverage on the planet.

The Ridgeway is the oldest continuously used road in Europe, dating back to the Stone Age. Situated in southern England, travelled by our Neolithic ancestors, it's at least 5000 years old. Over the centuries Celts, Romans, Romano Britons, Saxons and Vikings fought along its heights. The ancient track starts at a lay-by on the busy A4, west of Marlborough, Wiltshire, a nondescript spot to the modern motorist but significant in terms of prehistory.

The bipolar struggle between the US and USSR continues and reaches its peak in the 1970s. In Europe, both superpowers respect their opponents' spheres of influence without ever admitting that they exist. The Cold War brings about a frozen balance of power, symbolised since 1961 by the divided city of Berlin. In other parts of the world, the ideological conflict unfolds on much more violent lines, just like in Vietnam, with deadly struggles claiming tens of thousands of victims. This episode also addresses the effects of the Vietnam War when mass demonstrations for peace and brotherhood emerge in the US and spread over to Germany creating one of the biggest peace movements in our history. It also presents the dark sides of both the eastern and the western political systems. On the one hand dissidents and free minds who are incarcerated and who must fear for their lives, on the other hand proponents of a more socialist world in the West who are massively discriminated against in their jobs and daily lives. Explore the final stage of the Cold War and the reasons for its ending. Promises made by wealthy Western consumer companies, their seemingly endless supply of goods, products and services also affect people in the East. In the end, it is above all an economic necessity for the Soviet Union to put an end to their sinfully expensive arms race with the USA. The domestic apparatus of oppression, so feared in the decades before, becomes less intimidating to people in the Eastern Bloc. With the fall of the Berlin Wall the decades-long struggle for ideological supremacy and political power in the world is over, the Soviet Union collapses shortly thereafter. In those days, many people see the end of the Cold War as the end of history as such, and the success of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government.

A hundred miles south of Cairo, Bettany starts on a stretch of Nile that few visitors ever get to see. But this was once Egypt's main highway, used by Cleopatra to travel the country and be seen by her people. Over 2000 years later, Bettany visits a vast desert catacomb, where tens of thousands of mummified animals were once left as an offering. Today, the skills involved in mummification have been well and truly lost, as Bettany finds when she joins a world expert and her student in a modern experiment to mummify a deceased pet cat.

Pupils and their teachers have embarked on an extraordinary time-travelling adventure through seven eras of British history. Starting out in the age of Empire in 1895, they've lived lessons, life and dinners all the way through to the end of the 1990s, with their school as their time machine. Now they're returning for one last adventure. In this final episode of the series, the class and teachers return to school for their very own reunion party, where they'll be joined by presenter Sara Cox and social historian Polly Russell. As pupils, teachers and families celebrate together, they'll reflect on over 100 years of time travel, and explore how the legacy of the past lives on in the schools of today. But their journey isn't over yet, as our intrepid class of pupils set off to explore what the future of the classroom might look like. They'll experience the cutting-edge possibilities of virtual classrooms and contend with the unsettling notion of lessons run by artificial intelligence.
