Deep in the heart of South America, where Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay collide, lies one of the most spectacular geographical secrets of the natural world - Iguacu, a place forged from the explosive clashing of the earth's tectonic plates. Over five kilometres long and 100 metres high, Iguacu is the greatest waterfall on Earth. Five times the size of Niagara, some 2000 tonnes of water pour over its 300 cascades each second. These awesome falls are also home to one of the richest habitats on earth: 2000 species of plants, 450 species of birds, 50 different mammals and more reptiles and insects than anyone has been able to count.

These volunteers must make life and death decisions on a daily basis, a world away from the facilities of a modern hospital. Evacuation from this altitude is either a two-day walk on the back of a porter or an expensive and dangerous helicopter ride.
