Michel Lawrence investigates the constructed world in art, talking with artists and photographers discussing the man-made world as the inspiration for their art. The gallerist/collector Charles Justin - a retired architect - sees the art of the constructed world as a way of helping explain the modern world. An eclectic group of artists all discuss their greatly varied artistic styles to present the world in a sometimes-abstract manner, but always in a thoughtful and questioning way of assessing modern life. Stephen Hayley, Simon Finn and the German/American sculptor Thomas Demand all explain how modern technology has helped them shape their art.

Michel Lawrence investigates the human world in art, specifically the art of portraiture. Gallerist Stuart Purves establishes the scene with his firmly held belief that portraiture is really a battle between artist and subject which he likens to 'war'. The major Archibald winning portrait artists Lewis Miller, Del Kathryn Barton and Louise Hearman all talk about what drives their work and how they approach their own typically idiosyncratic styles. They reveal their own highly personal journeys for their art.
