Russia Open the newspaper or turn on the TV news and it’s pretty likely you’ll hear Russia mentioned. The country has hit the headlines repeatedly this year over accusations it has ties to the new US President and his administration. That’s big news because not so long ago, the two countries were bitter enemies. This week we find out more about Russia and its tumultuous relationship with the west. International Women’s Day: Women at Work Next week the world will mark International Women’s Day, which celebrates the awesome achievements of women all around the world. But it’s also a day to remember the past inequalities they have faced too, especially in the workplace. So in our next episode, we’re going to step back in time to find out what it was really like to be a working woman, before discovering some of the problems they still face today. TEACHING RESOURCES INCLUDED Learning Areas: History / Knowledge and Understanding: Days and weeks celebrated or commemorated in Australia (including Australia Day, Anzac Day, and National Sorry Day) and the importance of symbols and emblems Year 3 Experiences of Australian democracy and citizenship, including the status and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, migrants, women and children Year 6 Balloon Ban Have you ever let a helium balloon drift off into the sky? Or popped one outside and left the remains? Well Zoos Victoria say those two actions are incredibly dangerous for many birds, animals and sea creatures, because many of them mistake it for food. So now they are campaigning for balloons to be banned outside. Well experts say it’s happening way too often now. So some famous sports stars have helped to launch a campaign asking parents to make sure sport stays fun for kids.
