Traditionally, Eden has been seen as a mythological place, an abstract paradise. Genesis is intriguingly specific about its location and archaeologists now believe they may have zeroed in on the place which inspired Eden - the Fertile Crescent, particularly the area which is now in the south of modern day Turkey. For Dr Elaine Padilla, this area matches perfectly the description of where the Garden of Eden was. Using modern satellite imagery a clear contender emerges. Is this the real location which inspired the Eden narrative?

Archaeologists in the central Egyptian desert have made an extraordinary find: an ancient cemetery where 1,000 people from the Pharaoh's lost capital of Amarna are buried. Why did this great city only survive one generation before mysteriously vanishing from history? Amarna was a city built for one purpose: to serve the pharaoh. Akhenaten was one of Ancient Egypt's most colourful kings; a revolutionary who set up his own religion, he was seen by many as a dangerous heretic. He married the legendary beauty, Nefertiti, abandoned the ancient Egyptian spiritual home of Thebes and led 40,000 people into the desert to found his new capital at Amarna. However within two decades, Egypt was on the brink of collapse, the city had been abandoned and the pharaoh's name wiped from history. For the first time, Timewatch will tell the tale of this lost capital's dramatic rise and fall, through the story of the pharaoh and his people who lived and died here, revealing why this city disappeared from history for more than 3,000 years. Timewatch has been given exclusive access to the discovery. We follow a team of scientists as they analyse the remains of 35 men, women and children, including 12 fully intact skeletons to reconstruct how they lived and died. We reveal that the people of Amarna led brutal lives? they worked backbreakingly hard (indicated by spinal trauma); had poor diets (bones show iron deficiency) and died tragically young. For the first time in thousands of years Timewatch will rebuild the city using cutting edge CGI. We will explore the magnificent palaces and temples of Akhenaten and also the workshops where craftsmen and sculptors toiled to create this dazzling city for their great pharaoh.

In 55 BC, Julius Caesar arrived at the mighty Rhine. He was determined to get his legions across, but considered it beneath the dignity of the Roman army to cross the river by boat. Consequently, he ordered his men to build a wooden bridge over a river which was at least 400m wide, up to 8m deep and flowing at 2m a second. In his account of The Gallic Wars, he claims that from the felling of the first tree to the completed bridge, this massive structure was built in only 10 days. This program attempts to discover if Caesar was boasting. Engineer Chris Wise takes on the challenge and attempts to build a timber bridge across the North Tyne, in Hadrian's Wall country, another outpost of the Roman Empire, using the same techniques as the Romans had at their disposal.
