Dr Ryan Stone is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone - tethered to nothing but each other and spiralling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

In the south of France, scientists from 37 countries are building the most complex machine ever attempted: an artificial sun. If they get it right, it will illuminate the way to produce clean, cheap, abundant energy for millions of years. If they fail, it will be one of the biggest scientific failures of all time. Nuclear fusion has been the holy grail of energy for many decades now. It’s the process that drives stars, the ultimate source of energy in the universe. The possibility that fusion might be achievable on Earth as an energy source has driven scientists to the edge of reason for almost a century. Original title: Let There Be Light.

On April 26, 1986, a catastrophic blast blew the lid off Chernobyl's Reactor No.4. The explosion was 400 times more potent than the Hiroshima bomb, ignighting fires that burned for 10 days, sending a radioactive cloud across Europe. In the aftermath, ill-equipped workers heroically sealed the smouldering reactor in a concrete sarcophagus, but the hastily constructed shelter was only built to last 30 years. Now, 30 countries including the UK, France and the US have come together to pay for a 1.2 billion Euro international rescue plan to build a mighty 25,000-ton steel shelter which will entomb the radiation and last for a century. This documentary follows the team of international engineers as they race against time to build the structure over the disaster site.
