Alan J Pakula's subjects often drew from the murky and paranoid world of American politics with is noted trilogy Klute (1971), The Parallax View (1974) and All the President's Men (1976), He was nominated for three Academy Awards including his adaptation of Harper Lee's , To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) and Best Adapted Screenplay for Sophie's Choice (1982). His passion for the political thriller continued with John Grisham's The Pelican Brief (1993) which he wrote, produced and directed.

One of Australia's best known animators, Adam Elliot stunned the American and Australian film industry in 2004 when he won an Oscar for his short film Harvey Krumpet. In this episode of Artscape, Virginia Trioli joins Elliot for an insightful chat which reveals just what it took to make his latest film Mary and Max, an $8 million project that was five years in the making with over 100 crew members. This is a far cry from Harvey Krumpet, which cost only $380,000 and was made by Elliot and a couple of mates in his father's storage unit.
