In this episode we meet Linda, 54, who weighs 134 kg. She can only walk very short distances and has doubled her original size. She is worn out and everything hurts. Linda is classed as morbidly obese. This means her life will be undoubtedly shortened because of her weight. Her last resort is gastric band surgery.
In episode 5, Laura (38) has been overweight for as long as she can remember. At her heaviest Laura weighed 197kgs and was walking with two sticks, had an asthma condition and was on a myriad of prescription drugs. Laura's weight spiralled out of control when she was sexually assaulted in her home. Laura has had enough and is about to undergo gastric bypass surgery. She has been committed to a strict regime to prepare for this life-changing procedure.
In episode four we meet Sharon (42) who at her heaviest weighed 114kg. Like many women, Sharon's weight spiralled during pregnancy. Sharon has recently lost weight and is now down to 100kg. Sharon's BMI is over forty and for her height she is still in the morbidly obese range. The best option for Sharon is gastric band surgery to drastically reduce the size of her stomach. Sharon will feel fuller much more quickly which will help her to control her weight.
After a string of bad relationships Yvonne (43) took to food for comfort and the weight piled on taking her to 127kg. Yvonne became a secret binge eater, secretly hiding high-sugared foods which exploded her waistline and busted her bank balance. Yvonne's relationship with food is known as compulsive overeating. She will consume an average of 7,000 calories per day. Now she is determined to lose weight in order to be able to look after her son. Yvonne has also fallen in love, but with her partner's mum's bullying, Yvonne is desperate to make a change.
In episode two Adrian Long (53) experienced massive weight gain after a motorcycle accident left him disabled. Adrian's weight ballooned to almost 160kg. Adrian was even unable to use a public toilet due to his weight. Adrian will undergo a gastric bypass during which his stomach will become ten percent of its size.
