Professional learning for Indigenous perspectives

These videos address the following professional standards for teachers: Focus area 1.4: Strategies for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Focus area 2.4: Understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. Watching these videos, reflecting upon the issues raised and using that knowledge to assist in the learning of your students now and in the future can count towards your teacher identified hours of professional learning. Increasing knowledge of the history of Aboriginal Australians is a key part of developing understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Programs such as Spread the Word can provide ways to teach Aboriginal language and culture. Consider the ways you can incorporate Aboriginal perspectives into your teaching and think about the way past injustices have affected generations of Aboriginal people.
