Entry to Trop Jr 2010 is officially open!
TropJr is the worlds largest short film festival for kids by kids. The competition is open to kids aged 15 years and younger – school and community groups are welcome also! 12 Finalists will compete for great prizes - including $3,000 cash from EnhanceTV! EnhanceTV, the online resource centre for teachers using television in the classroom, is delighted to sponsor this year’s Trop Jr winner with a $3,000 cash prize.
Check out www.tropjr.com/au/ for entry guidelines, release forms and other helpful filmmaker guides. There are just a few other small guidelines you must follow when entering your short film:
- Your film must be made specifically for Trop Jr 2010
- Trop Jr 2010 must be it’s first public screening
- Your film must be no longer than 7 minutes (including title and end credits)
- It must contain the TSI DOT
- Your film must be suitable for children under 15
- The filmmaker, and each participant in a group entry other than the nominated parent or legal guardian must be 15 years or younger on Thursday 7 January 2010.
- Entries close Thursday 7 January 2010 at 6pm!
The 16 handpicked Finalist Films will screen live at the Domain, Sydney on Sunday 21 February 2010 as well as screen at select venues around Australia. Pencil this date into your diary and come down for a day of fun, entertainment and films – what more could you ask for!

14 year old Gabriel Colomb of New South Wales has been awarded first place winner of Trop Jr – the world’s largest short film festival for kids - by kids.
Gabriel Colomb lives, eats and breathes the medium and is determined to pursue a career in filmmaking. His film is about a Famous Hollywood director, Winston Kubrike, waxes lyrical about his new masterpiece. Every film had to contain the Trop Jr Signature Item, or TSI, to be eligible for Trop Jr. The TSI for this was ‘Squeeze.’
“I am very excited to win Trop Jr, I am glad everyone liked my film, it was fun to make and very exciting to be part of today,” says Gabriel Colomb.
Trop Jr featured 12 short films by Australia’s youngest and most talented filmmakers, all under the age of 15. Watched by a crowd of families, fans and film buffs at the Domain, Sydney. The films featured everything from documentary, to horror, comedy and claymation.
Gabriel Colomb has won an array of prizes valued at close to $12,000 and aimed at gearing them up for a future career in film:
- Return flights, accommodation and visit to Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank thanks to Cartoon Network, where the lucky winner will experience the making of a Cartoon Network show.
- $3000 in cash from EnhanceTV
- 1 day Australian film industry tour comprising of a visit to post production facilities Atlab, The Lab and the set of a major feature in production, courtesy of Kodak
