Prophets Of Science Fiction: Arthur C Clarke - Ep 4 Of 8

Prophets of Science Fiction, hosted by Ridley Scott, continues Sunday nights on SBS ONE exploring how the 'science fiction' of the past has now simply become 'science'. What once was just imagination is now real; what was once the distant future is now just around the corner. The science of the future was strangely prophesied by a group of visionaries whose dreams, which once may have labelled them as renegades and 'mad scientists', have become reality!

The series is a biographical exploration of eight science fiction thinkers, including Jules Verne, George Lucas, HG Wells, Mary Shelley, Isaac Isimov, Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke and Philip K. Dick - and how their early projections eerily predicted the future.

Some sci-fi storytellers are content to merely predict, but Sir Arthur C. Clarke creates. Clarke is largely responsible for the cornerstone of modern telecommunication technology: the satellite. Clarke's collaboration with director Stanley Kubrick on the iconic 2001: A Space Odyssey predicted videophones, iPads, and commercial spaceflight, while redefining science fiction cinema for a new generation.
