Bullying (Theme Pack)
A compilation of programs on the issue of bullying. The programs cover a range of bullying from traditional playground taunts to the rise of cyber bullying. Programs include: Four Corners: The Bully's Playground, Insight: bully.com, Cutting Edge: Growing Up Online and Difference of Opinion: Growing Up in the Digital Age.
FOUR CORNERS: THE BULLIES' PLAYGROUND
Children across Australia talk about the alarming impact of bullying on their lives. Despite major efforts from governments, schools and teachers, bullying remains an intractable problem made worse by modern technology. Once it was fists, rocks and personal abuse - now bullies have the net, mobile phones and Facebook as their playgrounds for brutality. This isn't just concerning - it can be lethal, as reporter Quentin McDermott reveals.
INSIGHT: BULLY.COM
Bullying in Australian schools has escalated. Currently 1 in 6 Australian children are bullied each week. Research links sustained terror from bullying to depression and, in extreme cases, youth suicide. In tonight's Insight forum, yachtie Jon Bertrand tells how he was bullied as a kid and the effect it had on him; Layne Beachley tells how she was bullied by surfing blokes because she was a sheila; and a mother whose 11-year-old son attempted suicide after being bullied takes on a group of bullies in the forum who say bullying is just a normal part of school life.
CUTTING EDGE: GROWING UP ONLINE
Jessica Hunter was a shy and awkward girl who struggled to make friends at school. Then, at age 14, she reinvented herself online as Autumn Edows, a Goth artist and model. She posted provocative photos of herself on the Web and fast developed a cult following. Growing Up Online, takes viewers inside the very public private worlds that kids are creating online, raising important questions about how the Internet is transforming childhood.
DIFFERENCE OF OPINION: GROWING UP IN THE DIGITAL AGE
How is the multimedia age of emails, mobiles, and the internet shaping young Australians? Has it meant a communication breakthrough or communication breakdown? Is generation Y better connected or disconnected from their peers and parents? And what sort of adults will the children of the digital revolution become?
