Soweto Strings: Two Years In The Life Of A Classical Music Project

A dedicated and gifted British music teacher helps youngsters in the black South African township of Soweto move from the abject poverty, crime and despair of their environment to hope and joy at her unusual centre for classical music excellence.

Pupils at Rosemary Nalden's Buskaid Music School feel drawn to music that is at once exotic and deeply familiar. Many of her students have shown astonishing musical gifts that she believes come from their African roots. But their inner drive and ambition override their desperate circumstances.

A moving and musically rich documentary, this film showcases spectacular African orchestral and dance talent and also reveals a resilience and faith in the human spirit's ability to conquer what looks like terminal defeat.
