Not Forgotten
Not Forgotten
Not Forgotten tells the stories of some of the men commemorated on World War One memorials around Australia. It examines the legacy of grief, loss and remembrance, to ensure that, more than ninety years on, these men are not forgotten. Some of their individual and family stories are vividly brought to life through photos, historical records and letters and family memories.

In one sense the stories we see and hear in this film are representative of the 330,000 Australian men who served overseas during World War One. But, every man who served and those who died has their own story, their own family and their own experience of war. This film honours some of those memories. In tracing several individuals and their descendants whose names are on war memorials, we are shown how pride and grief are inextricably intertwined on these memorials.

As public attendances at Anzac Day commemorations continue to grow, particularly amongst young people, it is important that students understand the human dimensions of the loss of so many young Australians in World War One. This film reveals and commemorates several of the young men who died. It would be a valuable resource to show students in secondary school, offering stories about individuals as it contextualises the war experience in Australia's history. While all students would find this film of interest, it has direct relevance in the following curriculum areas: - Australian History, Australia at War, Civics and Citizenship, Democracy, English, Film and Media Studies and Indigenous Studies.
