Dodly and Flynn are stuck inside on a rainy day. In finding different ways to amuse themselves many opportunities arise for counting up to ten. Support segments include counting down a rocket launch and using fingers to count. Key aspects of counting explored include: one to one correspondence; cardinality (the number of items in the group will be the same no matter what order they are counted in and the last number counted tells us how many items are in the group); counting on; and counting back.
Through two puppet monsters, Dodly and Flynn, animations, songs and rhymes, Count Us In takes young viewers through a lively and fun exploration of mathematics topics. Areas covered follow mathematic curriculum content strands investigating pattern, number, measurement and chance and data.
In each program the content develops from the use of concrete representation of numbers to exploring problems where there is less reliance on such representation. There is also a strong emphasis on mathematical language and on encouraging estimation and self-correction. |
